Balzac - Paradox
Album: Paradox
Artist: BALZAC
Label: GAN-SHIN
The fact that Balzac shares a long serving close relationship with 'The Mad Capsule Markets', will probably come as no surprise as the same hardcore, punk fusion rhythm is drilled relentlessly into your mind. Not only is the sound similar, but this special collaboration album was fully produced and programmed by The 'Markets' bassist, Takeshi Ueda.
Though not for the faint of heart, the punk fuelled mayhem that ensues over the course of this short 20 minute album, should have those with a taste for some classic 70's punk reaching for the safety pins, pulling on their docs and pogo-ing before this mini album is through. Yet, in addition to the classic raw-ness that gives Paradox a true punk feel, it's the distorted, industrial edge that gives the album just that hint of something extra special, and really gives Balzac a sound that can doubtlessly be called their own.
What truly makes this album worth while though, is the addition of an 18 track bonus DVD, showing you a true glimpse of what this band really have to offer. If the DVD is anything to go by, then an opportunity to see a live performance by this Japanese foursome is definitely something that shouldn't be missed.
